RSVP *does* work, as described in the help text. If you are having problems with it, then send an email so that together we can find out why it isn't for you. Simply leaving a comment saying that it doesn't help anyone.

Version 1.1.16 fixes one problem and avoids a few others related to changes in the Meetup.com API. If there are any problems, please send an email to the support email address. A feature and UI update with tablet optimization is in the works.
